How to Select a Competition Leotard

For most gymnasts, the final decision on what competition leotard to wear will usually be made by a coach.

Color

Color is the first thing most people notice about a leotard.

Decide what emotions you are trying to convey and choose the color that best expresses these emotions.

Style

When choosing a competition leotard, the right style can actually enhance the gymnast's performance.

Let's face it, when you look good, you feel good.

And when you feel good, you perform well.

Fit

A loose, sagging leotard is not only unattractive, it may also be hazardous.

A loose-fitting leotard could potentially get caught on a piece of equipment and cause serious injury.

On the other hand, a leotard that is too tight can be uncomfortable and restrict a gymnast's mobility, thus negatively impacting her performance in the eyes of the judges.
